HPU Cross Country Finishes Season At NCAA Regional
San Francisco (11/7/09) – At the NCAA West Region Championships, the HPU men’s and women’s cross country teams finished 12thand 15th, respectively.
Dany Malley was the top finisher for HPU in the 10K race, crossing the tape at 32:56 for 34th. Michelle Lundh led the Lady Sea Warriors on the 6K course, placing 45th with a time of 23:07.
Quinn Horochuk, who placed first at the PacWest Championships, was the second finisher for HPU (51st, 23:18). She was followed by Kim Kuhnert (56th, 23:22), Mariane Uehara (118th, 24:44), Jamie Torres (126th, 25:05), and Wendy Darling (140th, 26:38).
Alaska-Anchorage took top team honors.
Finishing behind Malley on the men’s side were Kevin Enriques (57th, 34:00), Flemming Eriksen (63rd, 34:08), Jon Cleghorn (84th, 35:01), Vaughn Harber (91st, 35:28), Craig Kandler (113th, 36:45), and Kevin Wright (119th, 37:25).
Alaska-Anchorage again took top team honors.
HPU’s Quinn Horochuk Takes Top Honors At The PacWest Championships
San Francisco (10/31/09) – At the PacWest Cross Country Championships, the Lady Sea Warriors took home second place, and the HPU men’s team finished third. HPU senior Quinn Horochuk ran a career best in taking top individual honors for the women’s 8K race.
Horockuk (18:53) finished eight seconds better than second place Lacey Krout (19:01) of BYU-Hawai‘i. Also placing for the Lady Sea Warriors was Michelle Lundh (5th, 19:28), Mariane Uehara (11th, 19:46), Kim Kuhnert (12th, 19:56), Amanda Tancheleun (13th, 20:17), Jamie Torres (15th, 20:52), and Wendy Darling (18th, 21:24).
BYU-Hawai‘i took top team honors.
In the men’s action, HPU was paced by Dany Malley who placed eighth at 26:32. Academy of Art took top team honors and was led by individual winner Amos Maru (25:17).
Also placing for HPU in the 8K race was Kevin Enriques (13th, 26:54), Flemming Eriksen (16th, 27:01), Jon Cleghorn (19th, 27:05), Kevin Wright (20th, 27:09), Vaughn Harber (24th, 27:59), and Craig Kandler (27th, 28:33).
Both teams now set their sites on the NCAA West Region Championships next Saturday, November 7, also in San Francisco. The women’s race will be a 6K course with the men running a 10K race.
Sea Warriors Compete At BYUH Invitational
Laie, HI (10/17/09) – At the BYU-Hawai‘i Invitational, the HPU men’s and women’s cross country teams placed third and second, respectively.
In the ladies action, Mariane Uehara and Michelle Lundy were the top HPU finishers in the 5K race. They took the sixth and seventh spots with a time of 19:31. The Sea Warriors finished second behind BYUH.
Also placing for HPU were Kim Kuhnert (10th in 19:41), Amanda Tanchaleun (11th in 20:17), Jamie Torres (14th in 20:45), and Wendy Darling (15th in 21:20).
On the men’s side, Kevin Enriques was the top HPU finisher for the first time in his career. He ran the 8K course in a time of 26:13 for sixth place overall. The Sea Warriors finished third behind UH-Hilo and winner BYUH.
HPU’s Craig Kandler also had a personal best placing in his first season with the Sea Warriors. He finished 18th with a time of 28:09.
Also finishing for HPU was Jon Cleghorn (ninth in 26:21), Flemming Eriksen (10th in 26:42), Vaughn Harber (12th in 27:15), and Kevin Wright (15th in 27:37).
The race was the regular season finale for both teams. Next up is the Pacific West Conference Championships to be held Saturday, October 31, in San Francisco.
HPU Cross Country Teams Place Second
Hilo, HI (10/10/09) – At the UH-Hilo Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Invitational, the HPU men’s and women’s teams both took second place honors. Quinn Horochuk and Dany Malley were HPU’s top finishers for its respective 6K races.
Horochuk took top overall honors (25:34), her first top finish of the season. The top 10 finishers included three other Sea Warrior runners. Kim Kuhnert finished third at 25:53, Michelle Lundh placed seventh at 26:11, and Mariane Uehara cross the finish line at 26:30 for a ninth place finish.
In the men’s race, Malley finished second overall at 21:10, 25 seconds behind individual winner Spencer Davlia (BYU-Hawai‘i). The Sea Warriors had one other top 10 finisher, Kevin Enriques at 21:44. Flemming Eriksen (21:59) and Vaughn Harber (22:08) finished 11th and 12th respectively.
The 17th and 18th spots went to Jon Cleghorn (22:34) and Kevin Wright (22:43), and Craig Kandler came in at 24:07 for a 26th place finish.
BYU-Hawai‘i took top team honors for both races. The Sea Warriors conclude the regular season next Saturday, October 17, at the BYU-Hawai‘i Invitational in Laie, HI.

HPU Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Place at HPU Invitational
Kaaawa, HI (9/5/09) – At the HPU Cross Country Invitational, the Sea Warrior men’s team finished second with the women’s team placing fifth. The race was the season opener for HPU, and was held at Kaaawa Valley.
In the men’s race, sophomore Jon Cleghorn paced the Sea Warriors on the 8K course, finishing sixth overall at 25:54. Freshman newcomer Flemming Eriksen finished ninth overall with a course time of 26:08. Dany Malley, Vaughn Harber, and Kevin Enriques rounded out the HPU finishers.
BYUH’s Brendan McMaster placed first overall at 24:52, and Humboldt State took top team honors.
In the ladies action, the Sea Warriors placed fifth overall in the 5K course. Newcomer Mariane Uehara finished 10th overall at 19:11 to lead HPU. Quinn Horochuk crossed the finish line two seconds later, and was followed by Wendy Darling, Amanda Tancheleun, and Jamie Torres.
Theresia Schnurr (Alaska-Fairbanks) took top individual honors at 17:58, and BYU-Hawaii won the team title.
Both Sea Warrior teams return to action Saturday, September 19, at the UH Big Wave Invitational. Race time is set for 8:00 a.m. on the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base.
HPU’s Christian Friis To Represent PacWest
Honolulu (8/13/09) – HPU Cross Country Coach Christian Friis has been selected as the PacWest Conference representative for the USTFCCCA, the governing body of intercollegiate track & field and cross country. The announcement was made by the USTFCCCA national office.
The USTFCCCA was recently restructured, adding a conference representation system in order to improve communication among NCAA Division II conferences and member schools, and the USTFCCCA. Coach Friis was selected as the Pacific West Conference representative on the executive committee.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) is the non-profit professional organization that represents men's and women's cross country and track & field coaches in the United States. The organization represents over 8,000 coaching members, including 91% of NCAA coaches.
The Sea Warriors will be gunning for their third PacWest Title in as many seasons, all under Friis. HPU placed sixth at the NCAA West Regional last season, its best performance in 10 years. They start training camp in August, and open the season Saturday, September 5 at the HPU Invitational at Kualoa Ranch.
HPU Men’s Cross Country Adds Recruit Eriksen
Honolulu (7/30/09) – The HPU men’s cross country team added Fleming Eriksen for the 2009 season. The announcement was made today by the Hawai‘i Pacific University athletics office.
Eriksen comes to HPU as a true freshman from Stenlille, Denmark. He ran for his club, winning the 3000 meter indoor Danish Championship last year, and placed third at the 2009 10km Danish Cross Country Championships.
HPU Head Coach Christian Friis, a former Danish and HPU runner, held high praise for his newcomer. “Fleming will fit right in with the talent we have returning this season,” said Friis. “We have a strong group coming back and he will definitely help us compete for the PacWest Title.”

Current and Former HPU Stars Place At Great Aloha Run
Honolulu, HI (2/16/09) – At the Hawaiian Telcom Great Aloha Run, current and former HPU cross country runners placed in the 8.1 mile race. Brian Lindburg (Kolding, Denmark) led the contingent as he finished first in the overall competition with a time of 42:21.
The 25th annual run started at Aloha Tower a few blocks from Hawai'i Pacific University, and finished at Aloha Stadium.
Fellow teammate Dany Malley (Mississauga, Canada) finished right behind Lindburg in second at 42:35 minutes.
Lindburg's win was the third time in as many years an HPU cross country runner has taken first place. Christian Madsen did it in 2007 and Todd Iacovelli achieved the honor last year.
The overall womens division winners include former HPU runners Nina Christensen, Sayuri Kusutani, and Louise Brasen.
Kevin Enriques (Honolulu) and Jon Cleghorn (New Brunswick, Canada) placed second in their age-groups, and former HPU runner Brandon Laan placed fourth in the overall competition.
HPU's Cross Country Teams Brings home Best performance in Ten Years
San Diego, CA (11/8/08) – At the NCAA West Region Cross Country Championships, the HPU cross country teams delivered stellar performances. The men’s team came in 6th overall with the Lady Sea Warriors placing 11th.
HPU's Men's Cross Country team coming off a successful season, locally undefeated, and Conference Champions for the second year in as many years. All seven runners were well poised for this race and looked strong and in position to continue where they left off at Conference two weeks ago.
Midway through the 6.2 mile race the first 70 runners were directed the wrong way on the course and all of a sudden had to turn around and found themselves behind 50 runners that they had just been racing far ahead of. This turn of events led to a re-start on the full course two hours later.
In the meantime the Women's 6K began. Emma Palmer and Johanna Berggren led a strong HPU team on the dusty trail behind UC San Diego's campus. Emma Palmer ran the strongest race to date in her two year career at HPU. At 24th place, Palmer had the best placing of any female HPU runner since 2005. Johanna Berggren was a few spots behind in 34th.
Quinn Horochuk and Wendy Darling followed in 78th and 89th and rounding out the team was Whitney Pitman in 108th. Jamie Torres and Amanda Tanhcahleun placed 113th and 131st, respectively.
With a total score of 332 points and the 11th place finish, the team had the best placing since 2005.
Two hours after their first attempt at racing a 10k, the men lined up in their start boxes once more. Conference leaders Dany Malley and Jens Munk Nielsen were once again the leading runners for HPU and placed themselves well in the field.
Kevin Enriques, Brian Lindberg and Andreas Schwab were not far behind, and the five scoring HPU runners were close to each other in the field. Dany Malley kept his spot in the field and finished an impressive 25th in the strong mens field, while Jens Munk Nielsen was only eight spots behind in 33rd. Rounding out the team was Kevin Enriques, 39th, Brian Lindberg, 48th, Andreas Schwab, 50th, while Jon Cleghorn placed 74th.
The men scored a low 185 points, the lowest score of any HPU Cross Country team in it's 10 year history in the NCAA and earned the team a sixth place finish in the strong field, This was also the highest finish in the past ten years. The time difference between the number one and number five runner from HPU was a low 1:19 min.
Hawaii Pacific University also recently won the bid to host the West Regional Championship in 2010.
PacWest Champs!
Despite dominating the local competition this season, winning a PacWest Championship is never business as usual for the Sea Warrior men’s cross country team. With the final four schools from the mainland making the trek out to Hawai‘i, it was a full field at the 2008 Hawaiian Airline Pacific West Conference Cross Country Championships at Turtle Bay Resort.
A wet drizzle greeted the runners as they started out on the 8K race. Freshman Dany Malley immediately went to the front and stayed there. He was joined by teammate Jens Munk Nielsen for the final 4 K of the race but ended up with an eight second victory. Andreas Schwab, 5th, Brian Lindberg, 8th, and Kevin Enriques, 10th, rounded out the team score. With all scoring runners in the top 10 HPU secured the victory with 26 points ahead of BYUH’s 49 points. UH Hilo was third with 56 points.
It was HPU's second Conference win in as many years. They placed second in 2006, and won in 2005.
Vaughn Harber and Jon Cleghorn finished 15th and 16th, respectively. The scoring team finished the 8K with a difference of 1:18 between Dany Malley and Kevin Enriques, and just 1:38 between Malley and seventh runner Cleghorn).
All-Conference Teams were also named, as Malley, Nielsen, and Schwab earned First-Team honors. Enriques and Lindberg were selected to the PacWest Second-Team

Lady Sea Warriors Second with a Solid Team Effort
For the past eight weeks HPU's women's cross country team have been battling BYUH for the team honors in the local races and it was to be another fierce battle at the 2008 Hawaii Airlines Pacific West Conference Cross Country Championships.
It was business as usual with BYUH's Amanda Whitford taking a commanding lead of the 5K race, while HPU's Swedish duo of Johanna Berggren and Emma Palmer secured their spot as #2 and #3 right behind Whitford.
It was behind them that all the excitement of this race unfolded. Quinn Horochuk, Wendy Darling, and Whitney Pitman each had their own battles with runners from BYUH. In the end though BYUH turned out to be the stronger team and took home the Championship with a margin of only seven points to second place HPU. UH-Hilo finished third with 59 points.
Together with Jamie Torres and Amanda Tanhchaleun, the HPU team and each individual runner had their best run to date this season. The time difference between Johanna Berggren and fifth runner Whitney Pitman mirrored the men's team (1:18), and to seventh runner Amanda Tanhchaleun a total of 2 minutes and 31 seconds.
Next up for both teams will be the West Regional Championships in San Diego, CA, November 8, 2008.

With a total of 10 All-Conference runners, an individual Championship, a team championship, a second place for team, two second place individual finishers and a third place individual finish, it is no exaggeration to say HPU's Cross Country teams had a very successful Conference meet .
HPU With Strong Finishes at Cross Country Invite
Kahalu‘u, HI (10/11/08) – At the HPU Cross Country Invitational held at Kualoa Ranch, the HPU cross country teams posted top three finishes. The men’s team posted a second place finish, while the Lady Sea Warriors finished third. Xavier University won both races.
On the men’s side, HPU ran well as Dany Malley was the top finisher for the Sea Warriors in the 8 K race. Xavier placed the top three finishers with Malley running a solid race to come in fourth. Jens Munk Nielsen finished three spots later. Kevin Enriques and Andreas Schwab also ran well in the arduous Koolau Mountain terrain, finishing with the 10th and 11th spots, respectively.
HPU finished with 82 points, 17 better than third place BYU-Hawai‘i, and 42 points behind Xavier.
The Lady Sea Warriors faced a tough field, falling short of the Musketeers and second place BYUH. They nearly took second place, finishing just 11 points behind the Lady Seasiders. Despite the third place finish, two of the top five finishers belonged to HPU. Johanna Berggren and Emma Palmer ran stellar races, finishing third and fourth, respectively. Quinn Horochuk also ran well in finishing 14th, with Wendy Darling coming in at 18th.
Both Sea Warrior teams now set their sights on the PacWest Conference Tournament held in Laie, Hawai‘i. They will have two weeks to prepare as the championships take place Saturday, October 25 with the start time set at 8:00 a.m.
HPU Compete at Stanford Invitational
Stanford, CA (9/27/08) – At the Stanford Golf Course, the HPU men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Stanford Invitational. Andreas Schwab and Johanna Berggren took top honors for HPU.
On the men's side, HPU finished the 8K race at 22nd in the largely Division I field. They finished with an average time of just 18 seconds behind San Jose State. Schwab ran hard, finishing 82nd with a time of 26:25 at a 5:19 mile pace. The other HPU finishers were Dany Malley (27:10), Kevin Enriques (27:27), Jens Munk Neilsen (28:00), and Vaughn Harber (29:12).
The ladies side saw Johanna Berggren run another fine race to pace the Sea Warriors. She finished at 114 ahead of many Division I runners. Berggren finished the 6K race at 23:30 with a 6:19 per mile pace. The team finished 24th with an average race time of 24:35. Berggren was followed by Emma Palmer (23:39), Quinn Horochuk (24:12), Whitney Pitman (25:24), Wendy Darling (26:07), and Amanda Tanchaleun (26:08).
Both teams return to action Saturday, October 11 at the HPU Invitational. The race will be hosted by HPU at the Hawai'i Loa Campus. Start time is set for 4:00 p.m.
Malley Selected as Runner of the Week
Queen Creek, AZ (9/24/08) – HPU’s Dany Malley has been selected as the men’s cross country PacWest Runner of the Week, announced today by the PacWest Media Office. The honor was given for races from September 15-21.
Malley is a newcomer to the HPU cross country program. The freshman from Mississaugua, Canada finished third among HPU runners and 12th overall at the Big Wave Invitational this past Saturday. He outdistanced numerous Division I runners, and it was his 12th-place mark that pushed the Sea Warriors into a third-place team finish. He covered the 5K race at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course in 15:57.56.
Malley is the third HPU runner in as many weeks to receive the honor. Freshman Andreas Schwab was named Runner of the Week in each of the first two weeks of the season.
The Sea Warriors also hold the #7 spot in the USTFCCCA West Region ranking.
HPU face a tough test this weekend, as selected members will be traveling to California to take part in the Stanford Invitational. The remaining team members will be competing in the BYU-Hawai‘i Invitational in Laie. Both races take place this Saturday, September 27.
Solid Showing For HPU at Big Wave Invitational
Honolulu, HI (9/20/08) – At the Big Wave Invitational hosted by the University of Hawai‘i, the HPU men’s and women’s cross country teams delivered quality performances. The men’s team finished 10th in the largely Division I field, while the Lady Sea Warriors finished fifth.
On the men’s side, the Sea Warriors finished just behind UCLA and six points off of Pepperdine. Andres Schwab was the top finisher for HPU coming in 10th. Schwab has been HPU’s top finisher in all three races this season. Finishing behind him were Dany Malley (11th) and Jens Munk Nielsen (12th). The remaining HPU finishers were Brian Lindberg (25th), Kevin Enriques (28th), and Vaughn Harber (32nd).
The Lady Sea Warriors also competed in a quality field, with Johanna Berggren finishing second as HPU’s top finisher. Berggren has been dominated by BYU-Hawai‘i’s Amanda Whitford in the previous two races, but today finished just two seconds behind her.

Impressive Finishes for HPU at UH-Hilo Invitational
Hilo, HI (9/13/08) – At the UH-Hilo Cross Country Invitational, the HPU men’s team finish first with the Lady Sea Warriors placing second behind leader BYU-Hawai‘i. In winning, the men’s team placed the top four finishers with the HPU women holding the two and three finishers.
On the men’s side, HPU won handedly, finishing 30 points higher than BYUH. UH-Hilo finished third with 64 points and Chaminade finished fourth with 110 points. Andreas Schwab led the way for HPU, finishing the 6K race at 19:30. Teammate Dany Malley finished eight seconds behind him at 19:38, with Brian Lindberg (19:40) and Jens Munk Nielsen (19:42) rounding out the top four.
HPU delivered a solid showing on the ladies side in the 6K race, finishing just two points behind leader BYUH. Johanna Berggren finished second at 23:48 with Emma Palmer finishing just behind her at 23:50.
The men’s team finished first for the second time this season in as many races, with the women posting a second place finish after taking top honors a week ago at the BYUH Invitational.
Both teams take the course again next week at the UH Big Wave Invitational. Start time is set for 7:30 a.m.

Men’s Cross Country Crack Regional Rankings
New Orleans, LA (9/9/08) – The HPU men’s cross country team earned a #6 spot in the West Region ranking, announced today by the USTFCCCA (US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association). The ranking is the first released ranking of the season.
The Sea Warriors earned the regional recognition on the heels of their first-place finish at the Chaminade Invitational, hosted by Chaminade in Laie, Hawai‘i this past Saturday. Newcomer Andreas Schwab (Karlsruhe, Germany) took top individual honors with a time of 25:40.
HPU jumped to sixth after not receiving a spot on the USTFCCCA pre-season regional poll.
The Sea Warriors, along with the women’s team, take part in the UH-Hilo Invitational this Saturday, September 13. The race will be hosted by UH-Hilo in Hilo, Hawai‘i with the start time set at 8:00 a.m.
HPU Cross Country Take Top Honors On Opening Day
Laie, HI (9/6/08) – At the Chaminade University Invitational, both the HPU men's and women's cross country teams took top team honors in their seasoning opening races. The race was held adjacent to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Newcomer Andreas Schwab (Karlsruhe, Germany) took top individual honors on the men's side with a time of 25:40.
On the ladies side, HPU finished 3-4-5 leading to the first place finish on the 3.1 mile course. Johanna Berggren, Emma Palmer, and Quinn Horochuk paced the Sea Warriors behind leader Amanda Whitford (BYUH). Wendy Darling finished 20 seconds back of Horochuk for 12th place followed by Whitney Pitman who placed 19th.
On the men's side, the race consisted of four loops for a total of five miles. Schwab took the lead right away and never relinquished it. Jens Munk Nielsen closed in on the last two loops and finished just six seconds behind Schwab. The rest of the team followed closely with Dany Malley (6th), Vaughn Harber (7th) and Kevin Enriques (10th).
Next up for both teams is the UH-Hilo Invite on Saturday, September 13.
HPU’s Dalgaard Takes 12th Place At Honolulu Marathon
Honolulu, Hawai‘i (12/9/07) – HPU cross country runner Esben Dalgaard (Aarhus, Denmark) took part in this year’s Honolulu Marathon, finishing 12th out of nearly 28,000 runners. Dalgaard finished higher than any other Hawai‘i registered participant, crossing the tape just over 19 minutes behind winner Tolosa Ambesse of Ethiopia.
Dalgaard recorded a time of 2:36:40. Dalgaard recently finished his junior season for the HPU Cross Country team. His Sea Warrior team finished with a Pac West Championship and a place in the NCAA West Regional Championships. HPU spent much of the season ranked in the regional polls, climbing as high as 6th.
HPU Finishes Season NCAA Regionals
Nampa, Idaho (11/3/07) – At the NCAA Cross Country West Regional Championships, the HPU men’s and women’s cross country teams fell short of qualifying for the National Championships. The men’s team placed 12th while the Lady Sea Warriors finished 20th.
The Lady Sea Warriors delivered one of their best performances of the season. Ladies coach Laura Aderman was pleased with the effort. "Everyone ended the season right. All the work they had put in and improvements they made throughout the season showed in the last race. I am very proud of everyone's performance."
Elin Soto-Thompson took top team honors as she did at the PacWest Championships last week, finishing with a career best 23:08, good for 83rd place. Jennifer Torres (23:18), Emma Palmer (23:31), Quinn Horochuk (23:31), and Wendy Darling (23:57) trailed Soto-Thompson, and Samantha Mathews finished at 26:10 in her first Regional Championship competition.
HPU topped UH-Hilo, who had won the 2007 PacWest Championship. Seattle Pacific took top individual and team honors.
On the men's side Brandon Laan (32:24) took top team honors with a 39th place finish in the 10,000 meter race. Jens Munk Nielsen (32:29), Esben Dalgaard (32:40), Kevin Enriques (33:30), and Vaughn Harber (35:05) rounded out the Sea Warrior finishers.
John Riak (St. Martin’s) took top individual honors, with Chico State taking top team honors.
Sea Warrior Cross Country Set To Take Flight
Honolulu, Hawai‘i (11/1/07) – After first and third place finishes at the Pacific West Conference Championships, the men's and women's cross country teams set their sites on Boise, Idaho and the NCAA Far West Regional Championships. The race will be held this Saturday, November 3rd at Eagle Island State Park hosted by Northwest Nazarene University.
On the men’s side, HPU has finished with the top spot in each of their nine races this season, including a narrow win at last weekend’s PacWest Championships held last Saturday in Belmont, California. Senior Brandon Laan will look to cap off his career at HPU in style and improve on last years 10th place finish. As a team, HPU finished seventh in the 2006 Regional Championships and hope to improve on that mark this time around.
The women's team finished third at the PacWest Championships, with Elin Soto-Thompson taking top honors for the Sea Warriors at the five-spot. The Lady Sea Warriors delivered their best performance of the season and are prime to make a run at the Regional Championship.
The women's race begins at 11:00 a.m. with the men's start time set for 12:15 p.m.
Men’s Cross Country Remain Perfect, Women Finish Second
Hilo, Hawai‘i (10/13/07) – At the UH-Hilo Invitational, the HPU Sea Warrior mens cross team took first place, their sixth first place finish in as many races this season. The HPU women finished second behind UH-Hilo and ahead of Chaminade.
In the men’s race, three HPU runners placed in the top four finishes. Brandon Laan and Jens Munk Neilsen finished tied for top individual honors, each finishing at 19:30. Esben Daalgard finished in the four spot at 20:11. Kevin Enriques (20:30) and Vaughn Harber (21:09) rounded out the HPU contingent, finishing 16th and 17th respectively.
Despite the impressive individual Sea Warrior performances, HPU finished just three points ahead of second place UH-Hilo at 29-26. Chaminade finished third with 65 points.
On the ladies side, UH-Hilo dominated in bettering second place HPU by 25 points. The Lady Vulcans finished with 18 points, HPU with 43 points, and Chaminade with 59 points. Emma Palmer (25:10) and Jennifer Torres (25:11) were the top two finishers for HPU, placing 8th and 9th, respectively. Amanda Whitford (BYUH) took top individual honors at 23:17.
The UH-Hilo Invitational was the final regular season race of the season, as both teams travel to San Francisco, California for the PacWest Championships. The Championships are set for Saturday, October 20, start time to be determined.
Men’s Cross Country Climbs In Regional Poll
Metairie, Louisiana (10/4/07) – The HPU men’s cross country team received a #6 ranking in the USTFCCCA national poll, released today by the national office. The USTFCCCA, the governing body for collegiate cross country and track & field, held the Sea Warriors in the seven spot for the previous two weeks before moving them up one spot.
HPU has won every race of the season thus far, with the latest victory at the UH Big Wave Invitational. After a week off, they retake the course this weekend as they host the HPU Invitational at the Hawai‘i Loa Campus. Start time is set for 4:30 p.m.
Men’s Cross Country Capture Big Wave Invitational Title, Women Place Fifth
Kane‘ohe, Hawai‘i (9/22/07) – At the Big Wave Invitational hosted by the University of Hawai‘i, the HPU men’s cross country team took top individual and team honors, with the Lady Sea Warriors placing fifth. The race was held on the Kane`ohe Klipper Golf Course on the Marine Corps Base Hawai‘i.
On the men's side, junior Jens Munk Nielsen (Denmark) took top individual honors, completing the 5K race in 16:29. Nielsen and his Sea Warrior teammates captured the team title with 42 points followed by BYU (52), UH-Hilo (52), Saint Mary's (66), and Chaminade (119). The top finish was the fifth in as many races this season for HPU.
On the ladies side, HPU finished fifth, two points shy of Saint Mary’s and well ahead of sixth place Chaminade. Brigham Young captured the women's team title with 20 points with their top five finishers claiming the Nos. 2-6 spots. San Diego State took second (64 pts.) followed by UH (117), Hawai`i-Hilo (125), BYU-Hawai`i (134), Saint Mary's (162), Hawai`i Pacific (164), and Chaminade (268).
The Sea Warriors take a week off from competition before they host the Hawai‘i Pacific University Invitational. Start time is set for 4:30 p.m., Saturday October 6 at the Hawai‘i Loa Campus. The Invitational will be held in conjunction with the first annual HPU Fun Run. The two-mile run beginning at 3:00 p.m. is open to all HPU students and members of the community. Entry fee is $5 and includes a t-shirt and post-run BBQ.
Men's Cross Country Tops UH-Hilo, Women Place Third
Laie, Hawai'i (9/15/07) – At the Chaminade Invitational held on the North Shore of O'ahu, the cross country teams faced of against inter-island opponents with the men finishing first and the women placing third.
The men won their fourth race of the young season. With a total score of 34, the Sea Warriors edge UH-Hilo by a single point for the victory. Jens Munk Nielson ( Denmark) was the top finisher for HPU at the second spot, with Brandon Laan (London, Canada) taking third place.
Both men and women race in the Big Wave Invitational next Saturday, September 22, in Kane'ohe. The race is hosted by the University of Hawai'i-Manoa and begins at 7:30 a.m.
Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Compete At BYU-Hawai‘i Invitational
Laie, Hawai‘i (9/8/07) – At the BYU-Hawai‘i Invitational, the HPU men’s cross country team finished first with the women’s team placing fourth.
On the men’s side, the Sea Warriors finished with a final score of 21, 20 points better than UH-Hilo and 43 points better than host BYUH. Brandon Laan (Ontario, Canada) took individual honors for HPU with a time of 27:28. Sea Warrior runners claimed five of the top eight places in the race to easily win the team title.
In placing fourth, Quinn Horochuk (New Brunswick, Canada) earned top honors for the HPU women, finishing 20:05 for seventh overall.
The first place finish for the men was their second in as many races this season. Both men and women will participate in the Chaminade Invitational Saturday, September 15. Start time is set for 8:00 a.m. in Laie, Hawai'i.
Sea Warrior Cross Country Kicks Off Season In Alaska
Fairbanks, Alaska (8/30/07) – At the Alaska Nanook Cross Country Running Invitational, the HPU men’s cross country team placed first with the women’s team finishing second. The race was hosted by the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
On the men’s side, the top three finishers belonged to HPU. Veteran Brandon Laan finished first in the 8K race at 27:35.5. Jens Munk Nielsen and Esben Dalgaard finished second and third respectively.
On the women’s side in the 6K race, newcomer Emma Palmer led all HPU finishers with 24:59.5 good for second place. Sophomore Quinn Horochuk finished 24 seconds behind Palmer, finishing third.
“Both teams showed up with their hearts in the right place,” praised head coach Christian Friis. “This will be a great season once we become race-ready.”
The Sea Warriors return to action Saturday, September 1 for the second and final day of the Invitational. Both men and women will run a 4K race.

Cross Country Releases 2007 Season Schedule
5/23/07 (Honolulu, Hawai‘i) – The Hawai‘i Pacific University men’s and women’s cross country teams finalized their 2007 season schedule.
HPU opens the 2007 campaign at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, competing in a pair of meets August 30 and September 1. The Sea Warriors then return to Oahu for six weeks, competing in invitationals hosted by BYU-Hawai‘i (9/8), Chaminade (9/15), and the University of Hawai‘i-Manoa (9/22).
The Sea Warriors then host their own meet October 6, the HPU Invitational on the Hawai‘i Loa Campus in Kaneohe, Hawai‘i. HPU concludes the regular season in Hilo, Hawai‘i, competing in the University of Hawai‘i-Hilo Invitational.

Sea Warriors Place Three Top 5 Finishers In Banana Man 5K Chase
Honolulu, Hawai‘i – At the 6th Annual Jamba Juice Banana Man 5K Race, three of the top 5 finishers were from the 2006 HPU men’s cross country team.
Todd Iacovelli claimed the top spot, finishing with a time of 14:39, with Brandon Laan (15:35) finishing second, and Esben Dalgaard (15:53) placing fourth. Freshman Kevin Enriques finished 11th with a time of 16:40.
The 5K race was held at Ala Moana Beach Park and Magic Island, with the majority of the profits donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Hawaii.

Todd Iacovilli and Inga Buerger Earn Conference Honors
Honolulu, Hawai'i - In recognition of their outstanding cross country seasons, senior Todd Iacovelli and sophomore Inga Buerger each received Athlete of the Year honors for the Pacific West Conference. Iacovelli was also selected to the NCAA Division II All-America team this past November.
Iacovelli and Burger each won the individual titles at the 2006 Pacific West Conference Cross Country Championships held this past October in Hilo, Hawai'i. Iacovelli, who finished first in four meets this season, won the men's 8K in a time of 25:06. Burger took the women's 6K race in 24:56.

Iacovelli Named All-American At National Championships
In a very strong field in Pensacola, Florida at the 2006 NCAA Cross Country Championships, HPU's Todd Iacovelli fared well, finishing the 6.2 mile course in 30:01.3, good for 19th place overall. With his performance, he also earned NCAA II All-America honors after the race.
Iacovelli, appearing at his first NCAA Championship ever, showed that there is a reason why he was named the male athlete of the year in the West Region. With his usually cool tactical overview, Iacovelli began the race placed in the low 30's and slowly moved up the field the next four miles. "I could see the next group of guys right up there, but they just didn't come back like I hoped," he said.
With two miles to go, Iacovelli secured his place in the field at 19th, setting a new personal record in the process. His average mile split was 4:51 minutes, pacing him at 24:15 through five miles, also a new personal record.
"This was a great way to finish off my career," said the All-American. "My first time at nationals and being part of a great race while being named All-American was a great experience."
Iacovelli is the 10th runner representing Hawai'i Pacific University at the NCAA Cross Country Championships since 1998, but the first American, and first Hawaii born runner to participate in the NCAA Cross Country Championships for HPU.

More Honors For Iacovelli
The awards keep piling up for Todd Iacovelli. After being named to the 2006 NCAA II Men's Cross Country All West Region Team last week, the senior from Kailua was named the West Region Male Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Iacovelli, who qualified for the NCAA II National Championships in Pensacola, Florida this weekend, won the 10K regional championship in Oroville, California on November 4th. The first-place finish was his sixth of the year, and followed his victory at the Pacific West Championship on October 21st.

Iacovelli And Laan Earn All-Region Honors

Iacovelli Wins Regional Championship
HPU senior Todd Iacovelli continued his dream season, winning the 2006 Western Reigional Championship at the Forbay Recreation Area, in Oroville, CA. The Kailua native and former Punahou standout won the 10K race in 31:58. Teammate Brandon Laan also fared well, finishing the race in 10th place, with a time of 33:04. Other HPU finishers included Geoff Dunn (69th, 35:34), Esben Dalgaard (35:51), Doug Higgins (81st, 36:15), and Kevin Enriques (101st, 38:01).
On the women's side, Inga Burger was the top finisher for HPU in the 6K, finishing in 44th place with a time of 23:20. Quinn Horochuk placed 68th in 24:00, while Charissa Buchanan (107th, 25:28), Wendy Darling (116th, 26:24), and Elizabeth Johnson (124th, 29:20) also finished for HPU.
With the victory, Iacovelli will represent HPU and the PacWest at the NCAA Div. II championships in Pensacola, FL, November 18, 2006.

Iacovelli and Burger Claim Individual Championships
HPU's Todd Iacovelli and Inga Burger each won the individual titles at the 2006 Pacific West Conference Cross Country Championship today in Hilo, Hawai'i. Iacovelli, who finished first in four meets this season, won the men's 8K in a time of 25:06, one minute and four second ahead of teammate and second place finisher Brandon Laan. Burger, who is coing off her first individual win of the year last week took the women's 6K race in 24:56, 40 seconds ahead of BYUH's Amanda Whittford, who finished second.
Both teams finished in third place in the team standings. BYUH took the men's team title with a low score of 38. Host team UH-Hilo finished second with 43 points, followed by HPU (49), Notre Dame de Namur (80), Chaminade (115), and Grand Canyon (145). On the women's side, the Vulcans finished first with a low score of 35, followed by BYUH (39), HPU (49), and Notre Dame de Namur (87). Chaminade and Grand Canyon did not qualify for team standings.
"Both teams ran great races," said head coach Christian Friis. "Todd separated himself from the pack and really turned it on the last mile and a half, while Inga did the same, finishing strong towards the finish line."
Other finishers for HPU included on the men's side, Esben Dalgaard (12th, 27:31), Geoff Dunn (18th, 27:49), and Douglas Higgins (21st, 28:27). In the women's race, Quinn Horochuk placed eighth with a time of 26:36, while Wendy Darling finished 10th at 26:57. Charissa Buchanan (15th, 27:36), Elin Soto-Thompson (27th, 30:42), and Elizabeth Johnson (30th, 32:14) rounded out the scoring for HPU.
Both teams will head to Oroville, California to take part in the West Regional Championship on November 4th.

Iacovelli And Laan Continue To Roll
In their first meet after a three-week layoff, HPU's Todd Iacovelli and Brandon Laan picked up right where they left off, taking the top two spots on the men's side of the HPU Invitational at the windward Hawai'i Loa campus.
The duo pushed each other from beginning to end in the 10K course, with Iacovelli posting the winning time of 29:38. Laan was 21 seconds behind at 29:59. It was the third time this season the pair finished in first and second place, with Iacovelli leading the way in all three. Fellow Sea Warrior Esben Dalgaard rounded out the top 10 finishers with a time of 31:17.
As a team, HPU totaled 50 points for a third-place finish. BYU-Hawai'i, who had finishers in the fifth through eighth spots posted the low score of 38. UH-Hilo finished second, placing the third, fourth, and ninth place finishers. Other finishers for HPU included Kevin Enriques (18th, 33:31), Geoff Dunn (19th, 33:34), Doug Higgins (23rd, 34:44), and Frank Rainey (36th, 35:33).
On the women's side, Inga Burger won the individual race, finishing the 6K course in 26:48 for her first win of the season. It wasn't even close as Burger was the only runner to break the 27 minute mark. Teammate Quinn Horochuk placed sixth, with a time of 28:27, giving HPU two top 10 finishers. Other finishers for the Sea Warriors were Charissa Buchanan (16th, 30:23), Wendy Darling (19th, 31:17), Elin Soto-Thompson (21st, 32:47), and Elizabeth Johnson (22nd, 34:03).
UH-Hilo, who placed four runners in the top 10, posted the low score of the day with 32. BYU-Hawai'i finished second with three top 10 finishers and 41 points, while HPU placed third with 55 points.
The Sea Warriors will head to Hilo next weekend for the PacWest Championships, as they hope to qualify for the regional meet on November 4th in Oroville, California.

Iacovelli And Laan Finish 1-2 In Laie
HPU's Todd Iacovelli and Brandon Laan showed why they are the favorites to win the PacWest men's cross country individual championship. Iacovelli won his third race of the year, while Laan placed second at the BYU-Hawai'i Invitational today in Laie, Hawai'i.
Iacovelli, a senior from Kailua, finished the 8K course in 25:48, 35 seconds better than teammate Laan, who covered the course in 26:23. BYUH's Jacob Puzey finished nearly a minute behind Iacovelli, placing third with a time of 26:38. HPU's Esben Dalgaard also ran well, finishing in 27:07 for sixth place. The host Seasiders had seven of the top 10 finishers, winning the team standings with a low score of 27 points. HPU placed second with 38 points, followed by Chaminade with 73. Other finishers for the Sea Warriors included Douglas Higgins (13th, 29:03), Kevin Enriques (16th, 29:14), Geoff Dunn (17th, 29:55), and Frank Rainey (19th, 30:19).
In the women's 5K, HPU's Quinn Horochuk continued her impressive freshman season, placing fifth overall, and second among Division II runners. Horochuk crossed the finish line in 20:09, 13 seconds behind BYUH's Amanda Castro-Whitford (4th, 19:56). UH-Manoa's Chantelle Laan, Sharlene Carillo, and Tava Tedesco took the top three spots, with Laan obliterating the field in a time of 18:37. Sea Warrior Wendy Darling also ran well, finishing 10th (20:55), while teammates Charissa Buchanan (13th, 21:27), Elin Soto-Thompson (19th, 22:34), and Elizabeth Johnson (22nd, 24:03) rounded out the scoring for HPU. UH-Manoa placed first overall with a low score of 31, followed by BYU-Hawai'i (44), HPU (69), and Chaminade (85).

Iacovelli And Laan Finish In Top Five
Seniors Todd Iacovelli and Brandon Laan continued to shine, fininshing in the top five at the UH-Manoa Big Wave Invitational at the Kaneohe Clipper Golf Course. Iacovelli placed second in the 5K race with a time of 15:35, just four seconds behind the University of Houston's Calum Neff. Laan finished in fifth with a time of 16:03.
As a team, HPU placed fourth with 85 points, ahead of conference rivals UH-Hilo and Chaminade. Houston finished first (44), followed by BYU-Hawai'i (67), and Occidental College (68). Sea Warrior Esben Dalgaard placed 12th, with a time of 16:31, while teammates Douglas Higgins (34th, 17:54), Kevin Enriques (37th, 18:08), Frank Rainey (46th, 19:10), and Geoff Dunn (47th, 19:17) rounded out the scoring for HPU.
On the women's side, freshman Quinn Horochuk was HPU's top finisher in the 4K race, placing eighth, with a time of 15:55. Wendy Darling (22nd, 16:38), Charissa Buchanan (37th, 17:36), and Elin Soto-Thompson (44th, 18:37) were HPU's other finishers. The team did not qualify in the overall standings.

Iacovelli Lead Men's Team To Victory In Hilo
Senior Todd Iacovelli won his second meet in a row, leading the HPU men's cross country team to a first-place finish at the UH-Hilo Invitational in Hilo, Hawai'i. Iacovelli, a former Punahou High School standout, won the 8K course in 19:47, edging out teammate Brandon Laan, who finished second with a time of 20:11.
The Sea Warriors bounced back from a third-place finish last week to narrowly capture first-place by a point over host team UH-Hilo. All five HPU harriers finished in the top 15 to earn the low score of 40. Hilo posted a score of 41, followed by BYU-Hawai'i (43) and Chaminade (96). Laan came up big for HPU, going from sixth place to second in the last half mile. Esben Dalgaard, who didn't run last week, finished sixth (20:37) in his Sea Warrior debut. Frank Rainey (14th, 22:17) and Doug Higgins (15th, 22:21) rounded out the scoring for HPU.
The women's team received great efforts as well, placing two in the top 10 after starting the race in last place. Inga Burger led the way, finishing second (25:02) in the 6K course, seven seconds behind BYUH's Amanda Whittford (24:55). Quinn Horochuk placed eighth for the second consecutive meet with a time of 26:38. Other HPU finishers included Wendy Darling (13th, 27:12), Charissa Buchanan (17th, 27:33), an d Elin Soto-Thompson (21st, 29:54). Host team UH-Hilo won the meet with 39 points, followed by BYU-Hawai'i (41), HPU (61), and Chaminade (80).
HPU will be back in action next Saturday, September 16th, in the UH-Manoa Big Wave Invitational. The meet will take place at the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base Klipper Golf Course in Kaneohe, Hawai'i. The men's 5K meet begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the women's 4K race at 7:50 a.m.

Iacovelli Wins Men's Race At BYUH Invitational
Looking to defend their 2005 Pacific West Conference Championships, the HPU men's and women's cross country teams had a decent showing at the BYUH Invitational in Laie, Hawai'i. HPU senior Todd Iacovelli dominated the men's race, finishing the 8K course in 25:50.00, thirty seconds ahead of BYUH's Jacob Puzey, and forty seconds ahead of Sea Warrior teammate Brandon Laan, who finished third.
As a team, the men finished in third place with 46 points, four points behind UH-Hilo (42), and six behind winner BYUH (40). Chaminade placed fourth with 88 points. Frank Rainey (12th, 29:43.90), Douglas Higgins (14th, 30:11.40), and Kevin Enriques (16th, 30:34.10) rounded out the scoring for HPU.
The women's team placed two runners in the top 10, with Quinn Horochuk finishing the 5K course in eighth place with a time of 20:56.90. Teammate Inga Burger finished a tad behind her in ninth with a time of 20:59.30. As a team, HPU placed fourth with a score of 70, trailing BYUH (61), UH-Hilo (53), and UH-Manoa (48). Chaminade finished in fifth with a score of 105. Other Sea Warrior finishers included Charissa Buchanan (12th, 21:21.00), Wendy Darling (15th, 21:32.00), and Elin Soto-Thompson (26th, 23:42.60).
Next for the Sea Warriors is a trip to Hilo to compete in the UH-Hilo Invitational on Saturday, September 9th. Both the men's and women's races will be 6K.

2006 Cross Country Schedule Released
The 2006 Hawai'i Pacific University men's and women's cross country teams will participate in five on-island invitationals before defending their Pacific West Conference Championship in Hilo, Hawai'i on October 21st.
The teams will open the season in the Chaminade Invitational on September 2nd, and continue for three consecutive weeks in the UH-Hilo Invitational, UH-Manoa Big Wave Invitational, and the BYU-Hawai'i Invitational. The Sea Warriors will then have three weeks off before hosting the HPU Invitational on Saturday, October 14th, at the Windward Hawai'i Loa Campus.

Dahl Is First Hawai'i Finisher At Boston Marathon
HPU's men's cross country runner Casper Dahl was the first Hawai'i runner to cross the finish line today at the 110th Boston Marathon. The 25-year old Dahl, a senior from Lyngby, Denmark, finished the 26.2 mile course in 2 hours, 35 minutes, and 25 seconds, placing him 78th out of 20,000 entrants. 2003 men's winner Robert Cheruiyot set a new course record, winning this year in a time of 2 hours, 7 minutes, and 14 seconds.
Dahl was a consistent runner for HPU this season, finishing in the top three in four meets, and also posting a 28th place finish at the Western Regional Championships.

HPU Harriers Finish Well At West Region Championships
Jacob Klausen found himself in unfamiliar territory at the Western Regional Cross Country Championships last weekend in Chino, California. He actually had to play catch-up. Klausen sprinted past two runners to finish in 10th-place in the men's 10K race, while teammate Casper Dahl finished a respectable 28th out of 107 runners. Klausen, who was in 11th-place with 200 meters to go, put it into overdrive and had just enough left to capture the 10th spot. In doing so, he earned a place on the All-Regional Team.
On the women's side, HPU favorite Inga Burger was in the front pack halfway through the women's 6K race before stepping in a gopher hole and twisting her ankle. Like a true Sea Warrior she kept on running, but eventually her injury got the best of her. Teammate Louise Brasen, who was also part of the pack, kept the pace however, and finished in 16th place. Anne Olesen (40th), Pia Folsing (45th), Masako Sagawa (61st), and Leigh Meade (131st), rounded out HPU's finishing team, placing 11th out of 21 teams.
"I'm very pleased with the outcome for both teams," said Head Coach Christian Friis. "It was a very competitive region, and we came out and performed very well. I think we all learned some things that will hopefully help us next year."

Cross Country Teams Win PacWest Championships
Hawai'i Pacific University's men's and women's cross country teams concluded their dominant season, running away with the conference championships today at Central Oahu Regional Park. Jacob Klausen won the men's 8K race, his sixth victory of the year, helping the men's team edge out BYU-Hawai'i, 41-46. Inga Burger, who has come on strong of late, won the women's 5K, her second win in the last three meets. The Lady Sea Warriors placed five runners in the top 10, including three of the top five finishers.
Burger clocked in with a time of 16:04, followed by teammate Louise Brasen, at 16:16. Anne OIesen finished in fifth, at 16:39, while Masako Sagawa (16:59) and Pia Folsing (17:05) took eighth and ninth place, respectively. Other finishers for HPU were Leigh Meade (16th, 17:59), Kisha Ann Borja (25th, 20:19), and Margret Gillan (27th, 20:36). HPU finished with the low score of 25, followed by BYU-Hawai'i (39), UH-Hilo (70), and Chaminade (99).
On the men's side, Casper Dahl finished in third-place with a time of 23:26, while Aaron Norton broke the top 10, placing seventh, with a time of 24:02. Also finishing for HPU were Attila Hegyaljai (14th, 25:22), Frank Rainey (16th, 25:35), and Matt Stevens (17th, 25:45). The Sea Warriors finished with 41 points, followed by BYU-Hawai'i (46), UH-Hilo (52), and Chaminade (82).

HPU Cross Country Teams Sweep At BYUH/Chaminade Road Invitational
The HPU men's and women's cross country teams both ran to victory today, sweeping the BYU-Hawai'i/Chaminade Road Invitational in Laie. Louise Brasen won for the second time this year, leading a quartet of Lady Sea Warriors finishing in the top five. Brasen finished the 5K course in 17:51, while teammates Inga Burger (18:10), Anne Olesen (18:45), and Pia Folsing (19:18) finished third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. Leigh Meade (19:31) also broke the top ten, finishing eighth. As a team, they finished with 21 points, followed by BYU-Hawai'i (34) and Chaminade (77).
On the men's side, Jacob Klausen continued his dominance, winning for the fifth time this season. As a team, HPU bounced back from a third-place finish last weekend in Hilo, to place three in the top five, and five in the top ten. Casper Dahl finished third in 33:21, while teammate Attila Hegyaljai placed fourth with a time of 33:42. Frank Rainey (34:55) and Aaron Norton (35:18)rounded out the top ten, finishing in ninth and tenth, respectively. The Sea Warriors finished with 27 points, followed by BYU-Hawai'i (39) and Chaminade (57).
Up next is the PacWest Conference Championships, which will be hosted by HPU. The meets will be held Saturday, October 22nd at CORP (Central Oahu Regional Park), beginning at 7:00am with the women's race, followed by the men at 8:00am.

Women Harriers Take First, Men Third At Hilo Invitational
Lady Sea Warriors Inga Burger and Louise Brasen finished first and second respectively, leading HPU to a first-place finish at the UH-Hilo Invitational. Pia Folsing also finished in the top five for HPU, finishing fourth in the 6K race, with a time of 24:30. Burger finished the course in 23:48, with Brasen right on her tail at 24:03. The Lady Sea Warriors finished with a low score of 24 for the meet, followed by BYU-Hawai'i (37), UH-Hilo (67), and Chaminade (88). HPU's Masako Sagawa finished in the top 10, placing sixth, with a time of 24:57.
On the men's side, Jacob Klausen won his fourth race of the season, finishing the 6K course in 20:12, narrowly edging out teammate Casper Dahl (20:27), who finished runner-up for the second consecutive meet. The Sea Warriors however, could not place anyone else in the top 10, as they finished in third place overall with 50 points. Host team UH-Hilo won the men's race with a team-low 43 points. BYU-Hawai'i finished second with 45 points, while Chaminade finished fourth with 80 points.
Next for both teams is the BYUH/Chaminade Road Course Invite, on Saturday, October 15th. The meet will be held in Laie, Hawai'i, with start time set for 8am.

HPU Ourtuns Competition Again
Jacob Klausen and Louise Brasen paced the Hawai'i Pacific University men's and women's cross country teams, leading the Sea Warriors to victory at the BYU-Hawai'i Invitational today in Laie. Klausen won his third race of the year, finishing the 8K course in 26:37. Brasen meanwhile, won for the first time this season, finishing the women's 5K course in 18:42. Both teams placed three of the top five finishers as Casper Dahl placed second (26:48), and Attilla Hegyaljai third (26:59) in the men's race, while Inga Burger took second (18:56), and Anne Olesen fourth (19:37) for the women.
As a team, the Sea Warrior men finished the meet with 32 points, while host BYU-Hawai'i finished second with 43 points. UH-Hilo took third with 45 points, while Chaminade did not qualify for scoring. On the womens side, HPU had a meet-low 30 points, followed by BYU-Hawai'i (49), UH-Hilo (76), UH-Manoa (80), and Chaminade (112).
The Sea Warriors will take this weekend off before heading to Hilo for the UH-Hilo Invitational. The meet will take place on Saturday, October 8th, with start time set for 7:00am.

Sea Wariror Men Win Big Wave Invitational
The Hawai'i Pacific men's cross country team captured the Big Wave Cross Country Invitational at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course, narrowly edging the University of Houston by one point in the 5K men's race. Jacob Klausen was HPU's top finisher, placing second in 15:56.3. Casper Dahl (6th, 16:30.6) and Aaron Norton (10th, 16:46.4) also finished in the top ten for the Sea Warriors. HPU finished with 49 points, followed by Houston (50), BYU-Hawai'i (66), UH-Hilo (71), and Mount San Antonio College (99).
In the 4K womens race, HPU finished second overall, but first amongst Division II schools, placing two runners in the top ten. Louise Brasen placed sixth in 14:56.1, followed by teammate Inga Burger at seventh in 15:02.2. Brigham Young University took the top spot with 15 points, placing the first five finishers. HPU was next with 62 points, followed by BYU-Hawai'i (96), Houston (96), University of Hawai'i (153), UH-Hilo (156), and Chaminade (206).
Both teams look continue their winning ways next week at the BYU-Hawai'i Invitational in Laie on Saturday, September 24th. The meet begins at 8:00am.

Sea Warrior Cross Country Teams Run Away With Sweep
The Hawai'i Pacific University Men's and Women's Cross Country teams dominated from start to finish, winning the Chaminade Invitational today in Laie, Hawai'i. On the women's side, Anne Olesen won her second straight 5K race with a time of 18:33, and teammate Pia Folsing finished second in 19:33, as HPU placed three of the top five finishers, posting a low score of 31 for the meet. BYU-Hawai'i placed second with 35 points, while UH-Manoa and Chaminade finished third and fourth with 69 and 92 points respectively.
Jacob Klausen won the men's 8K race with a time of 26:53, followed by teammate Casper Dahl (27:22), as the Sea Warriors also placed three of the top five finishers, recording a team-low 25 points. BYU-Hawai'i again finished second with 30 points, while Chaminade did not count in the team score.
Masako Sagawa rounded out the top five for the women, finishing fourth, with a time of 19:42. Teammate Leigh Meade cracked the top 10, finishing eighth, with a time of 20:10. On the men's side, Attila Hegyaljai placed fifth at 27:41, while Aaron Norton (28:19) and Frank Rainey (29:04) finished in seventh and tenth respectively.
Both teams will be back in action at the Hawai'i Big Wave Invitational on Saturday, September 17th at the Kaneohe Clipper Golf Course. Start time is slated for 7:30am.

Women's Cross Country Opens Season With Victory
Anne Olesen led the way for HPU as the Lady Sea Warrior cross country team opened the season by winning the HPU Invitational today at the Hawai'i Loa Campus. As a team, HPU captured four of the five top spots finishing with a low score of 20 for the meet. UH-Hilo finished second with 57 points, followed by BYU-Hawai'i (72), and Chaminade (74).
Olesen, a native of Copenhagen, Denmark finished the 5K course in 17:47, well ahead of Hilo's Laura Bachmeier, who finished with a time of 18:19. HPU's Inga Burger placed third with a time of 18:38, while teammates Pia Folsing and Masako Sagawa finished fourth and fifth with times of 18:49 and 18:58 respectively.
On the men's side, Sea Warrior Jacob Klausen won the 8K race, edging out Hilo's Gustavo Arceo by one second with a time of 26:22. Fellow Sea Warirors Matt Stevens placed eighth (27:24), while Frank Rainey (28:54) and Mike Orlofsky (34:24) finished in 14th and 22nd place respectively.
The next meet for HPU will be on Saturday, September 10th, in the Chaminade Invitational in Laie, Hawai'i. Action begins at 8am with the Women's 5k, followed by the men's 8k.
